Description

Fiery Scotch Eggs feature soft-boiled eggs wrapped in spiced ground meat, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried until golden and crisp, delivering a satisfying contrast of crunchy exterior, savory meat, and rich, runny yolk.

Ingredients

  • Large eggs: 6 whole eggs
  • Ground beef or chicken: 500 grams
  • Onion powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika: 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper: 0.5 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour: 0.5 cup
  • Breadcrumbs: 1 cup
  • Egg for coating: 1 whole egg, beaten
  • Neutral cooking oil: 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Place 5 eggs in a saucepan, cover with water, bring to a gentle boil, and cook for 6 minutes. Transfer immediately to ice water, cool, and peel carefully.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and salt until evenly mixed.
  3. Divide the meat mixture into 5 equal portions and flatten each portion.
  4. Wrap one peeled egg with each portion of seasoned meat, sealing completely.
  5. Roll each wrapped egg lightly in flour, dip into the beaten egg, and coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  7. Carefully lower the eggs into the oil and fry for 4 to 5 minutes, turning gently until evenly golden.
  8. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, rest briefly, and serve.

Notes

  • Chill boiled eggs before wrapping to make handling easier.
  • Keep hands slightly damp when shaping the meat to prevent sticking.
  • Fry in batches to maintain consistent oil temperature.
  • For a lighter option, bake at 200 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes.
