Description
A creamy, comforting, and elegant main course featuring layers of tender potatoes, garlic infused cream, melted cheese, and buttery salmon baked to golden perfection. Perfect for holidays or cozy dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 pound salmon fillet, cut into portions
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Combine the heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme in a mixing bowl and whisk until smooth.
- Lightly grease the baking dish, then arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes across the bottom, slightly overlapping. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with cheese.
- Nestle the salmon portions between the potato layers, allowing the heat to gently steam and cook the fish as the gratin bakes.
- Continue layering potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese. Bake at 375°F for 45 to 50 minutes until golden and the potatoes are fork tender.
Notes
- Allow the gratin to rest for 10 minutes before serving to help it set.
- Slice potatoes evenly for uniform cooking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
