Description

A creamy, comforting, and elegant main course featuring layers of tender potatoes, garlic infused cream, melted cheese, and buttery salmon baked to golden perfection. Perfect for holidays or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound salmon fillet, cut into portions
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine the heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme in a mixing bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Lightly grease the baking dish, then arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes across the bottom, slightly overlapping. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with cheese.
  3. Nestle the salmon portions between the potato layers, allowing the heat to gently steam and cook the fish as the gratin bakes.
  4. Continue layering potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese. Bake at 375°F for 45 to 50 minutes until golden and the potatoes are fork tender.

Notes

  • Allow the gratin to rest for 10 minutes before serving to help it set.
  • Slice potatoes evenly for uniform cooking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
