- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and divided
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and generously grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and remaining melted butter until smooth.
- Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
- Pour 1/4 cup melted butter into the prepared cake pan and evenly sprinkle the brown sugar over it.
- Arrange the banana slices neatly over the brown sugar mixture.
- Carefully pour the cake batter over the bananas and spread evenly.
- Bake for 38 to 42 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before carefully inverting it onto a serving plate.
- Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas for the best caramelized flavor.
- Do not overmix the batter or the cake may become dense.
