Description
Soft, chewy homemade blueberry bagels with bursts of juicy berries in every bite. These bakery-style bagels are boiled then baked for the classic crust and tender interior, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl combine warm water, granulated sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add bread flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Gently fold in the fresh blueberries so they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and create a hole in the center to form the bagel shape.
- Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and stir in the honey.
- Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side, then transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until the bagels are golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.
- Allow the bagels to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Handle the blueberries gently to avoid breaking them and coloring the dough too much.
- If using frozen blueberries, add them directly from the freezer.
- These bagels toast beautifully the next day and can also be frozen for longer storage.
