Description

Soft, chewy homemade blueberry bagels with bursts of juicy berries in every bite. These bakery-style bagels are boiled then baked for the classic crust and tender interior, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl combine warm water, granulated sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add bread flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. Gently fold in the fresh blueberries so they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and create a hole in the center to form the bagel shape.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and stir in the honey.
  7. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side, then transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes until the bagels are golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.
  9. Allow the bagels to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Handle the blueberries gently to avoid breaking them and coloring the dough too much.
  • If using frozen blueberries, add them directly from the freezer.
  • These bagels toast beautifully the next day and can also be frozen for longer storage.
