- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar (plus more for coating)

- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry and whisk until smooth. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
- Dip apple slices into the batter, letting the excess drip off.
- Carefully place the battered apple rings into hot oil and fry for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
- While still hot, toss each piece in a cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.
- Serve warm with caramel sauce, whipped cream, or yogurt.
