Description

A comforting baked dish with tender potato layers, rich bolognese sauce, and a golden cheesy topping, perfect for family meals or cozy nights in.


Ingredients

  • Potatoes: 800 grams, peeled and thinly sliced
  • Minced Beef: 500 grams
  • Onion: 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Carrots: 2 medium, finely diced
  • Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • Canned Tomatoes: 400 grams
  • Tomato Paste: 2 tablespoons
  • Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Dried Oregano: 1 teaspoon
  • Dried Basil: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt and Pepper: To taste
  • Cheddar Cheese: 200 grams, grated
  • Parmesan Cheese: 50 grams, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. Heat olive oil in a saucepan, sauté onions, carrots, and garlic until soft.
  3. Add minced beef and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
  5. Grease an ovenproof dish with olive oil.
  6. Layer half the potatoes, followed by half the bolognese sauce, and half the cheddar cheese.
  7. Repeat layers and finish with remaining cheese on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbling.
  10. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking.
  • Use a mix of cheeses for richer flavor.
  • Let it rest before serving for stable layers.
