Description
These Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwiches are a cheesy, savory twist on the classic Philly favorite—made with juicy sautéed chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, and melty provolone cheese, all tucked into toasted hoagie rolls.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 hoagie rolls, sliced open
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. If toasting the rolls in the oven, preheat to 350°F.
- In a bowl, toss the sliced chicken with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add olive oil to the hot skillet. Sauté onions and bell peppers until soft and golden, about 6–8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook seasoned chicken until browned and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes. Return veggies to the skillet and stir.
- Lower the heat and place provolone slices over the mixture. Cover for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
- Toast hoagie rolls if desired, then fill with hot chicken mixture.
- Serve immediately while warm and cheesy. Wrap in foil for on-the-go meals.
Notes
- Use chicken tenders or rotisserie chicken for quicker prep.
- Sub provolone with mozzarella or pepper jack for variation.
- Pre-toast rolls to avoid sogginess from the filling.
- Wrap leftovers in foil and reheat in the oven for best results.
