Description
Crispy, spicy mozzarella sticks coated in bold Nashville hot seasoning and fried until golden, with a melty cheese center and a cool ranch dip on the side. A perfect restaurant-style appetizer you can easily make at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to about 350°F so it is ready for frying.
- In one bowl mix flour with salt and pepper. In another bowl whisk eggs with milk. In a third bowl combine panko breadcrumbs, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and brown sugar.
- Line a plate with paper towels so the fried sticks can drain later.
- Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, then roll in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating once more for extra crunch.
- Fry the coated sticks in batches for about 1 to 2 minutes until deep golden and crisp.
- Remove from oil and place on the prepared plate to drain.
- Arrange on a platter with ranch dressing and serve while the cheese is still melty.
Notes
- Freeze the breaded mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes before frying to prevent the cheese from leaking.
- Keep oil at a steady temperature around 350°F for the crispiest coating.
- Do not overcrowd the pan while frying so the sticks cook evenly.
- Serve immediately for the best crunchy texture and melted cheese pull.
