Description

Crispy, spicy mozzarella sticks coated in bold Nashville hot seasoning and fried until golden, with a melty cheese center and a cool ranch dip on the side. A perfect restaurant-style appetizer you can easily make at home.

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to about 350°F so it is ready for frying.
  2. In one bowl mix flour with salt and pepper. In another bowl whisk eggs with milk. In a third bowl combine panko breadcrumbs, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and brown sugar.
  3. Line a plate with paper towels so the fried sticks can drain later.
  4. Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, then roll in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating once more for extra crunch.
  5. Fry the coated sticks in batches for about 1 to 2 minutes until deep golden and crisp.
  6. Remove from oil and place on the prepared plate to drain.
  7. Arrange on a platter with ranch dressing and serve while the cheese is still melty.

Notes

  • Freeze the breaded mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes before frying to prevent the cheese from leaking.
  • Keep oil at a steady temperature around 350°F for the crispiest coating.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying so the sticks cook evenly.
