Description
A classic French upside-down apple tart made with tender caramelized apples, buttery puff pastry, and a touch of honey, served warm with melting vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, peeled and halved
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place an oven-safe skillet over medium heat, add the granulated sugar, and cook until it melts and turns amber in color.
- Stir in the unsalted butter and honey until fully combined and smooth.
- Arrange the apple halves snugly in the caramel, cut side up, and drizzle with lemon juice.
- Cover the apples with the puff pastry sheet, gently tucking the edges down around the apples.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- Allow the tart to rest briefly before flipping to help the caramel settle.
- Reheat leftovers gently in the oven for best results.
