Description

Soft potato gnocchi coated in a rich and velvety tomato cream sauce, finished with grated parmesan and topped with fresh burrata that melts beautifully into every bite. A comforting Italian-inspired dish that feels indulgent yet comes together in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 grams) potato gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces / 400 grams) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup (240 milliliters) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup (50 grams) grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
  • 2 burrata cheese balls (about 4 ounces each)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil over medium high heat.
  2. In a deep skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Lower the heat slightly and pour in the heavy cream. Stir well and let the sauce simmer gently for 8 to 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Add the gnocchi to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, about 2 to 3 minutes, until they float to the surface. Drain well.
  5. Transfer the drained gnocchi directly into the skillet with the sauce. Toss gently to coat.
  6. Add grated parmesan cheese and stir until melted and fully incorporated into the sauce.
  7. Turn off the heat and place the burrata balls on top of the hot gnocchi so they begin to soften.
  8. Tear fresh basil over the dish, break open the burrata, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Reserve a small amount of pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
  • Do not overcook the gnocchi, remove them as soon as they float.
  • Add a pinch of chili flakes for a subtle spicy kick.
  • Freshly grated parmesan melts better and gives a smoother texture.
