Description

Crispy chilli beef is a takeout-style favorite featuring deep-fried strips of beef tossed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining guests, this dish combines crunch, heat, and flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 300g beef steak, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 red chilli, sliced
  • 2 spring onions, sliced
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or deep pan over medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, toss beef slices with beaten egg. In a separate bowl, mix cornflour and plain flour.
  3. Coat each beef strip in the flour mixture until evenly covered.
  4. Fry the beef in batches until golden and crispy, about 3–4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a clean pan, add a little oil and sauté garlic, ginger, and red chilli for 30 seconds.
  6. Stir in soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar. Let it simmer for 1 minute.
  7. Add the crispy beef to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  8. Stir in sliced spring onions and serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, let the beef rest on a rack before tossing in the sauce.
  • Adjust the chilli and sugar levels to suit your heat preference.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven or air fryer to retain crispiness.
