Description
Crispy Homemade Mozzarella Sticks are a golden, cheesy snack that’s easy to make and impossible to resist. With a crunchy coating and gooey center, they’re perfect for parties or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 16 mozzarella sticks (cut from a block of low-moisture mozzarella)
- 2 large eggs (beaten)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Cut the mozzarella block into uniform sticks, about 3–4 inches long.
- Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with herbs and seasonings.
- Dredge each stick in flour, dip into egg, then coat in breadcrumbs. Repeat egg and breadcrumb step for extra crunch.
- Place coated sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
- Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F.
- Fry a few sticks at a time for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Double coating helps keep the cheese inside and adds extra crunch.
- Freezing the sticks prevents cheese from melting too fast during frying.
- Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature for even frying.
- Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
