Description

Tender, juicy shredded beef slow-cooked in a rich and tangy barbecue sauce. Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or serving over rice, this comforting crockpot classic is easy to prepare and full of deep, smoky flavor.

  • 3 to 4 pounds chuck roast
  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your skillet if searing the meat, or your slow cooker if it has a browning setting.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place sliced onions and garlic at the bottom of the crockpot. Sear the chuck roast in a skillet if desired, then transfer to the crockpot.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours until the beef is tender and shreds easily.
  6. Remove the beef, shred with forks or mixer, and return it to the sauce. Let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm on buns, over rice, or however you like.
