Description

Juicy, spiced beef and lamb doner kebab baked to perfection, thinly sliced, lightly crisped, and tucked into warm pita with fresh vegetables and creamy garlic yogurt sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 500 grams ground lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely grated
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 6 pita bread rounds
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C and lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground lamb, grated onion, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Mix until just combined.
  3. Press the mixture firmly into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top evenly.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes or until fully cooked through and lightly browned on top.
  5. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice thinly, then sear slices briefly in a hot skillet for crisp edges.
  6. In a small bowl, mix plain yogurt, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt to make the garlic yogurt sauce.
  7. Warm the pita bread, then fill with sliced meat, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and drizzle with garlic yogurt sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the meat mixture for 30 minutes before baking for a firmer texture.
  • Slice the meat as thinly as possible for authentic texture.
  • Warm pita before assembling to prevent cracking.
  • Adjust salt and lemon in the sauce to taste before serving.
