Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g ground beef (80 percent lean)
  • 8 slices cheddar or American style cheese
  • 4 soft burger buns
  • 1 medium onion, finely sliced
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: lettuce, pickles, tomato slices

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then divide into 8 loose balls.
  2. Heat a lightly oiled heavy skillet over high heat until very hot.
  3. Place two beef balls on the skillet and smash them firmly with a spatula until thin.
  4. Cook until crispy around the edges, then top each patty with a slice of cheese.
  5. Stack two cheesy patties together to form a double layer.
  6. Toast the burger buns in the same pan until golden.
  7. Assemble the burgers with patties, onions, and any desired toppings.

Notes
