Description
These smash burger tacos are crispy, juicy, cheesy, and packed with fresh toppings. A thin layer of seasoned beef cooks right onto flour tortillas, then gets finished with melted cheddar, diced onion, diced tomato, chopped cilantro, and a drizzle of burger sauce for an easy dinner that tastes like the best parts of burger night and taco night together.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef, preferably 80/20
- 4 small flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup diced white onion
- 1/2 cup diced fresh tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup burger sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat for a few minutes until hot.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently just until seasoned.
- Divide the beef into 4 equal portions. Press one portion in a thin, even layer directly onto each flour tortilla, spreading it almost to the edges.
- Place each tortilla beef-side down onto the hot skillet. Cook in batches if needed.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the beef is browned and crisp around the edges. Flip each taco, then top the cooked beef with 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
- Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more, until the tortilla is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Transfer to plates and top with diced white onion, diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, and a drizzle of burger sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Keep the beef layer thin for the best smash burger texture.
- Prep the toppings before cooking since the tacos cook very quickly.
- Serve right away for the crispiest tortilla and meltiest cheese.
- If needed, swap cheddar with Monterey Jack or Colby Jack.
