Description
A juicy, homemade double cheeseburger layered with seasoned beef patties, melted American cheese, grilled onions, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, and creamy classic sauces on a soft sesame seed bun. It is rich, satisfying, and packed with that beloved burger joint flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef, preferably 80 percent lean
- 4 sesame seed burger buns
- 4 American cheese slices
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 small yellow onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape them into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Add the vegetable oil to the hot skillet.
- Place the patties into the skillet and add the sliced onions nearby so they cook at the same time.
- Cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side. During the last minute, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and let it melt.
- Lightly toast the burger buns in the skillet for about 30 seconds.
- Assemble each burger with lettuce, tomato, cheesy patties, grilled onions, ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard inside the buns. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Do not overwork the beef when shaping the patties so they stay tender.
- Season the patties right before cooking for the juiciest texture.
- Toast the buns lightly to help prevent sogginess.
- For a fuller burger like the reference style, stack 2 thinner patties per burger if preferred and adjust the yield accordingly.
