Description

A juicy, homemade double cheeseburger layered with seasoned beef patties, melted American cheese, grilled onions, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, and creamy classic sauces on a soft sesame seed bun. It is rich, satisfying, and packed with that beloved burger joint flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef, preferably 80 percent lean
  • 4 sesame seed burger buns
  • 4 American cheese slices
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape them into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  3. Add the vegetable oil to the hot skillet.
  4. Place the patties into the skillet and add the sliced onions nearby so they cook at the same time.
  5. Cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side. During the last minute, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and let it melt.
  6. Lightly toast the burger buns in the skillet for about 30 seconds.
  7. Assemble each burger with lettuce, tomato, cheesy patties, grilled onions, ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard inside the buns. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overwork the beef when shaping the patties so they stay tender.
  • Season the patties right before cooking for the juiciest texture.
  • Toast the buns lightly to help prevent sogginess.
  • For a fuller burger like the reference style, stack 2 thinner patties per burger if preferred and adjust the yield accordingly.
