Description
Flaky, buttery homemade toaster strudels filled with tender cinnamon-spiced apples and brown sugar, then drizzled with a sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, peeled and finely diced
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 to 2 teaspoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and vanilla. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until thickened and apples soften. Let cool.
- On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each into 3 rectangles.
- Spoon cooled apple filling onto 3 of the rectangles. Top with remaining rectangles and press edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush tops with beaten egg and bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
- Mix powdered sugar and milk to make the glaze, then drizzle over warm strudels.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Cool filling before assembling to avoid soggy pastry.
- Don’t overfill, use 1–2 tablespoons of apple mixture per strudel.
- Double glaze if you love it extra sweet.
