Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 6 slices thick bread (brioche or challah preferred)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Maple syrup, to taste
Instructions
- Warm your skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small pat of butter to coat.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, pumpkin purée, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a shallow dish or pie plate for easy dipping.
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, letting it soak for about 30 seconds per side.
- Place the soaked slices on the hot skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp on the edges.
- Add a dollop of spiced butter on top and let it melt. Drizzle with warm maple syrup.
- Serve hot with your favorite coffee or a glass of cold milk.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread to help it soak without becoming mushy.
- Whip butter with cinnamon and sugar for a spiced topping.
- Keep cooked slices warm in the oven at 200°F if making a large batch.
- Freeze leftovers with parchment between slices for easy reheating.
