Description

A cozy one-skillet comfort meal that combines pillowy potato gnocchi with a rich savory beef sauce, sweet carrots, and green peas. Inspired by the flavors of classic shepherd’s pie, this hearty dish delivers deep flavor, tender textures, and a satisfying family dinner that comes together in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g potato gnocchi
  • 450 g lean ground beef
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup finely grated cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
  2. Add the diced onion and carrots to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and beef broth, mixing well to create a savory sauce.
  5. Add the peas and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Stir the gnocchi directly into the skillet and cook until the gnocchi are tender and coated in the sauce, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8. Sprinkle grated cheese and chopped parsley over the dish.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Allow the ground beef to brown well before stirring for deeper flavor.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of extra beef broth.
  • Fresh herbs added at the end keep the dish bright and aromatic.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
