Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
Instructions
- Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and let it warm up.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Wipe skillet if needed, then return all ingredients to the pan.
- Add tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Add a splash of water if too thick.
- Spoon filling onto toasted buns and serve hot.
Notes
- Toast buns to prevent sogginess and add texture.
- Add hot sauce for a spicy twist.
- Double the batch for meal prep or leftovers.
- Use plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian version.
